- For us, it is not good at all in this situation and we try to work with those pieces, says Per Engström, national commander of the police special event Pass.

The police call it toll times, the times that are not used when the person who has booked time to apply for a passport does not show up.

In the past, it may not have been so problematic when there have been plenty of times, but now the situation is different.

The average waiting time for a pass time is currently about 21 weeks.

Has decreased

According to statistics requested by SVT from the Police Authority, there are 87,209 toll periods until 10 May.

The proportion of boom times is around 10 percent this year.

In February, it was as high as 17 percent, but has decreased during the spring to be 5-6 percent in recent weeks.

- If the public books a time and then does not show up, it is very difficult for us to overbook.

If everyone then arrives at that hour, there is a risk that we will have long waiting times in the passport office, says Per Engström.

Trying to overbook

But lately, the police have started to overbook, that like the airlines usually do expect that a number of people will not come and book more.

- We want to try this with overbooking if it works, but now we see that the toll times are down to five percent then we may get a long queue, says Per Engström.

Per Engström does not believe that the boom times are a major problem now for the police's passport handling.

Why there was such a high proportion of toll times at the beginning of the year, despite the high demand for pass times, the police can not answer.
