On Wednesday 18 May, the County Administrative Board and Sveaskog will carry out a nature conservation burning in the nature reserve Fermansbo urskog and the ecopark Öjesjöbrännan in Surahammar municipality.

The aim is to preserve unique nature and increase biodiversity.

Fire smoke can be irritating

The area to be burned is 4.5 hectares in size.

The burning means that fire smoke can be seen and felt around the area from lunchtime until the evening.

Fire in the forest fire 2014

The area where the Öjesjöbrännan ecopark has been established was ravaged by fire during the great forest fire in Västmanland in 2014. It was later set aside as an ecopark to preserve the unique nature that remains after a forest fire.

A total of 8,000 hectares of the fire-ravaged forest have been protected in nature reserves and other types of nature conservation areas.
