Europe 1 Studio SEASON 2021 - 202207:00 a.m., May 18, 2022

Gaston d'Orléans, third son of Henri IV and Marie de Médicis, worked all his life to seize the throne occupied by his elder brother, King Louis XIII.

In this new episode of the Europe 1 Studio podcast "At the heart of history", Clémentine Portier-Kaltenbach discusses the beginnings of the conflict for power that will divide the two brothers throughout their lives.

Although Louis XIII was destined to reign from birth, it is his younger brother, Gaston, who, by his charm and exuberance, is the portrait of their father and their mother's favourite.

Impressionable and unstable by nature, Louis XIII became increasingly jealous of the attention paid to Gaston and treated him as a subordinate.

The arrival of Cardinal Richelieu to the King's Council and the inability of Anne of Austria, wife of Louis XIII, to have a child, only aggravated the tensions between the King and his potential successor... In this new episode of the Europe 1 Studio podcast "At the heart of History", Clémentine Portier-Kaltenbach recounts the birth of the rivalry between the two enemy brothers.
