Egyptian artist Yahya Al-Fakharani topped the search engines during the past hours after his statements, which sparked a state of controversy on social media, and described the "burkini" - for veiled women - as shameful during a discussion session of the Committee on Culture, Tourism and Antiquities in the Senate about banning some veiled hotels from using swimming pools because of Wearing a burkini.

Tourism promotion

The Egyptian representative and senator said that "the burkini swimsuit is more shameful than the traditional swimsuit because the first sticks to the body, without entering into a religious controversy because we want to encourage tourism."

Al-Fakharani continued, "His wife is by nature shy, and when she wore the burkini, she said that it sticks to the body very much."

However, the Culture, Antiquities and Tourism Committee demanded not to discriminate among citizens by setting special conditions for clothing for inmates in order to prevent the controversy that occurs every year with women who wear "veiled swimsuits" in some tourist villages.

respect the laws

Yahya Al-Fakhrani's statements sparked a state of anger on social media, which made his wife, writer Lamis Jaber, comment on the matter in statements to a local website, saying that the topic is not important and is not worth talking about, as it is about respecting the place you go to enjoy the sea and the beach. A woman must respect its rules and implement its conditions, whether it is permissible to wear the “burkini” or not.

Al-Fakharani's wife added that she had already worn it and could not bear it because it was attached to her body, which hindered her desire to go into the water for treatment by swimming because it was uncomfortable.

Lamis Jaber concluded her speech that every person expresses his culture in the place he goes to, and tries to impose his ideas by force, for personal freedom is essential in a way that does not harm others, and most importantly, to follow the law followed in the state, according to her statements.

It is noteworthy that Yahya Al-Fakharani’s last artistic participation was through the series Zaki Najib Zarkash in Ramadan 2021, and after he settled on a new dramatic work in Ramadan 2022, he exited the competition for the first time without announcing whether he will postpone his new series or cancel it.
