Cars will be accepted from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean and entered in the LMDh category, for "Le Mans Daytona hybrid", which will allow them to compete in both the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona.

The Italian brand could notably compete in 2024 against Porsche, Peugeot, Alpine, Ferrari, Acura, BMW and Cadillac, some of its brands only competing in one of the two championships.

Lamborghini CEO, German Stephan Winkelmann, quoted in the press release, hailed "an important step" for his company, which had never before entered the top category of the world endurance championship.

"We are going to compete against the best, on the most demanding competition grounds," he explained.

“Our LMDh prototypes will become our most sophisticated open-air laboratory on four wheels,” stressed Stephan Winkelmann.

Lamborghini's lineup of luxury vehicles will be fully hybrid by the end of 2024.
