  • An unexplained wave of injections has affected nightclubs, bars and festivals across the country in recent months, with complaints filed in several cities, from Lille to Béziers and from Lorient to Grenoble, via Lyon, Besançon and even Valence.

Who is behind these stings and what do they contain?

These two questions are at the heart of the procedure which has just been launched in Nancy.

Two complaints were filed in the prefecture of Meurthe-et-Moselle by two young adults.

They say they were victims of these famous "bites" in the nightclub, announced Monday the public prosecutor, François Pérain.

“On the weekend of May 14 and 15, 2022, we were seized of two separate investigations” carried out by the Nancy police station and “relating to facts of injections”, indicated in a press release the magistrate.

“The complainants are a young woman aged 22 and a young man aged 18,” he said.

They claim "to have been bitten in the same night establishment in Nancy", the Chat Noir, "one on May 13 between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. and the other on May 14 at 1:30 a.m.", according to the prosecutor.

“A trace of a puncture in the arm was observed on a medical level for one of the two victims”, he specified, indicating that “the results of the toxicological analyzes (were) not yet known”.

"The legal qualification retained provisionally is intentional violence with the use of a weapon without ITT", added Mr. Pérain.

A national phenomenon

In a separate press release released on Monday, the Meurthe-et-Moselle prefecture and the Grand-Est regional health agency (ARS) called for “vigilance” after these two complaints, assuring that “the security forces ( …), relief and care are fully sensitized and mobilized to fight against this phenomenon”.

"In the event of a bite or suspicion of a bite", the prefecture and the ARS invite you to file a complaint and to go to the nearest emergency room for toxicological samples.
