It will be built in place of the current football field located near Berry Park.

In the Villejean district of Rennes, a new swimming pool will come out of the ground in the coming years.

Mainly playful, this new equipment will replace the current Villejean swimming pool, which has had its day.

Built in 1975, the latter has indeed become too dilapidated.

Its location also does not allow it to be enlarged and its renovation would cost a fortune.

During the municipal campaign, the mayor Nathalie Appéré had thus committed to building a new swimming pool in the district during the mandate.

Already presented a year ago, the project returned to the table of the municipal council this Monday at the end of the day with the designation of the winning project.

It will be carried by the Parisian architectural firm Atelier Po & Po, which already won the contract at the end of April for the future swimming pool in Dinan (Côtes-d'Armor).

In Rennes, the cost of the site is estimated at 24 million euros with the start of work scheduled for early 2024 and an opening to the public expected for the first quarter of 2026.

Slides, slashpad and pentagliss

The pool will include a 25-meter sports pool with six lanes.

But it should above all delight children and families with a multi-purpose 300 m² pool with water games and a 50 m² paddling pool.

Two slides and a 100 m² slashpad will also be built inside.

In fine weather, the public will also be able to take advantage of several outdoor facilities with another "slashpad", a pentagliss or a plant solarium.

It will be able to accommodate a maximum of 600 users with "a total annual attendance of 250,000 entries" estimated by the city of Rennes.

While awaiting delivery, the current Villejean swimming pool will continue to operate before being demolished.
