President Yoon Seok-yeol attends his first May 18 commemoration after taking office today.

Senior staff of the presidential office and more than 100 lawmakers belonging to the People's Power will also take the KTX special train departing from Seoul Station and visit with President Yoon.

President Yoon said that it would be desirable for the ruling party to participate as much as possible, and the Office of the Chief of Political Affairs conveyed this opinion to the party, an official from the presidential office explained.

At this commemoration ceremony, all the participants sang the 'March for Immortals', which was controversial in the past in the conservative government over whether to sing or not to sing.

A key official in the presidential office said, "President Yoon is trying to show the sincerity of integration and cooperation in action by attending the May 18 commemoration ceremony."

The 5/18 eve event was canceled or scaled back in the aftermath of Corona 19, but yesterday it was fully revived for the first time in three years.

A large number of Democratic Party figures including Lee Jae-myung, the head of the local elections, attended the eve event yesterday.

Chairman Lee visited the Gwangju National May 18 Democracy Cemetery yesterday and spent the whole day in Honam, including visiting all of Jeollabuk-do, focusing on building supporters ahead of the local elections.
