From July 1st, electricity will be cheaper for all consumers - the suppliers are obliged to pass on the elimination of the EEG surcharge to their customers.

However, this will not change much in terms of the increase in energy expenditure both in private households and in companies, as the announcement by the Frankfurt energy supplier Mainova on Tuesday shows: The electricity price will fall by 3.72 cents per kilowatt hour, but at the same time the company is announcing it July 1 increases in tariffs for gas and drinking water.

The latter is still moderate.

The basic annual price of the Aqua Classic tariff increases from 42 to 43.93 euros, and the price for a cubic meter of water increases by 3.5 percent to 2.08 euros.

According to a Mainova model calculation, for a household with 150 cubic meters of water consumption per year, this means additional monthly costs of 96 cents or an increase of 11.57 euros per year.

The increase is justified by cost increases for material and personnel for the operation of the water supply.

The euro per month should be easier to absorb than the 24 percent by which gas prices will increase for customers of the Erdgas Classic tariff.

That means an increase from 2.36 cents to 11.3 cents per kilowatt hour, which adds up to 24 euros a month for an average household with an annual consumption of 12,000 kilowatt hours.

This means that additional costs of 144 euros will be incurred this year alone - which means that the 110 euros saved by the electricity price reduction, which an average household (2500 kilowatt hours per year) can expect according to Mainova, have already been spent again.

Customers will be informed in writing about the new tariffs.
