A record number of salmon juveniles in Testeboån - stops in hydropower plants are believed to be the explanation

The power plant in Strömsbro is privately owned, but the municipality is struggling to buy it in order to create free hiking trails for the fish more permanently.

Testeboån classified as wild salmon water

The reconstruction of Testeboån's salmon stock is a collaborative project in which Testeboån Fisheries Conservation Area Association, the County Administrative Board, SLU Aqua, Gävle Municipality, the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation and Sportfiskarna participate.

Since 2013, Testeboån has been classified as wild salmon water.

In addition, large parts of the river are also protected as nature reserves and Natura 2000 areas.
