François-Xavier Bellamy pointed to Eric Piolle's decision to authorize the wearing of the burkini in Grenoble, a city of which he is mayor.

The MEP pleaded the principles of democracy.

Asked about the burkini controversy, François-Xavier Bellamy reacted to the municipal council meeting this Monday in Grenoble.

The elected officials of the city led by Eric Piolle (EELV) must decide on the authorization of the port of the burkini in the swimming pools.

The member of the European Parliament denounced the remarks of the ecologist.

"Eric Piolle explains to us that the burkini is social progress," pointed out François-Xavier Bellamy.

He continues: "He wants to act as if the burkini was a garment like any other. (...) We do not have the right to dress just any way in a democracy."
