On the map, it is called Sokashi, but everyone here calls it Novi Ladice, which means “Old Ladice.” It is about 18 kilometers from the city of Chernobyl, where the most famous nuclear explosion in history occurred in April 1986.

The Ukrainian, Volodymyr Stykhon, was a child at the time, and was led out of the old city to a new life, now at the age of 42, and now looks at the black walls that remain of his brick house in Novi Ladige when he married, but when he entered the army, The Russian to the town caught fire, probably as a result of the bombing.

"I heard strange noises, and when I went out to see what was going on, the house was burning, and the neighbors tried to help us, and we spent the night spraying water on the fire, but to no avail, and this is the result," Stejon told the Spanish newspaper, El Pais. Stikhon said that "having survived the Chernobyl accident in 1986, he has now suffered another catastrophe for the second time."

After the house burned down, Tsikhon, his wife and two children moved into a neighboring house, owned by his father, who died before the war began.

About a year after the Chernobyl explosion, Stekhon's grandfather and grandmother returned to old Ladice, where he used to visit them until their death in 2010. "I loved visiting them because it reminds me of my childhood," he says.

There is also another survivor of Chernobyl, Ukrainian Natalia Rybachuk (44 years old), who hit the roof of her house in the old Ladzhchi, where she lives with her two children, last November. The house was not destroyed, but severely damaged.

El Pais spoke with Valentina, who left Chernobyl in 1986 with her husband and two cows.

She remembers the day the nuclear explosion occurred, saying, "The residents were talking about a devastating event, but there was very little information at the time."

Valentina was able to adapt to her old Ladice, and she made a lot of friends, and she is now 58 years old.
