In the appeal, the legislator noted that the conduct of a special military operation in Ukraine is accompanied by the massive dissemination of false information regarding the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. 

Far from the last role in this disinformation campaign, according to him, is played today by citizens who were previously recognized in accordance with the law as performing the function of a foreign agent.

Currently, part 1 of Art.

207.3 of the Criminal Code of Russia for these actions is punishable by a fine of 700 thousand to 1.5 million rubles or imprisonment for up to three years, etc.

The second part of this article provides for aggravating circumstances that entail an increase in punishment up to a fine of 3 to 5 million rubles or imprisonment for a period of five to ten years.

Among other things, such circumstances are the commission of a crime for mercenary motives, using one's official position, by a group of persons by prior agreement, etc.

“In this regard, I ask you to evaluate the feasibility of amending Part 2 of Art.

207.3 regarding the inclusion in the list of persons and circumstances aggravating punishment under this article, citizens recognized as performing the function of a foreign agent, ”the text of the appeal says.

Earlier, the State Duma proposed to ban foreign agents from investing in strategic enterprises.
