The prime minister separately noted that for more than 40 days three ships with crude oil and fuel oil have been anchored in the sea zone of Sri Lanka. 

“We are working to get dollars on the open market to pay for these supplies,” he said.

Wickremesingh also said that currently a quarter of the country's electricity is generated by oil, so there is a possibility that daily power outages could increase to 15 hours a day.
