One person was killed and at least 4 others were seriously injured, Sunday, in a shooting in a church near Los Angeles, California, less than a day after a random shooting that killed 10 people in New York.

The shooting took place at a Geneva church in Laguna Woods, Orange County, southern California.

The Orange County Mayor's Office said on Twitter that all of the injured were adults and had been taken to hospital.

One person died at the scene of the accident.

In a previous tweet, the Orange County Department wrote that it had arrested a person and found a weapon that may have been used in the shooting.

For its part, the Orange County Fire Department said on Twitter that firefighters and paramedics were "on site, treating and transporting a number of the injured."

California Governor Gavin Newsom's office said it was working with local officials to monitor the situation.

Orange County Representative Kitty Porter called the shooting "disturbing and disturbing news, especially less than a day after a mass shooting in Buffalo," adding, "This should not become our new normal."

This is the second incident of its kind in the United States over the weekend.

An 18-year-old white man shot dead 10 people and wounded 3 others on Saturday in a "supermarket" in the predominantly black neighborhood of Buffalo, New York, in what authorities described as a purely racist attack.

California authorities have yet to issue any statement on the possible motives behind the church shooting.
