As expected since Emmanuel Macron's re-election three weeks ago, Prime Minister Jean-Castex officially tendered his resignation and that of his government on Monday, May 16.

The President of the Republic should appoint a new Prime Minister in the hours to come.

Jean Castex presented the resignation of his government to the President of the Republic in the middle of the afternoon at the Élysée.

It is a resignation in the form of the first episode of a soap opera announced for three weeks.
