According to the agency, at a closed meeting on May 13, the European Commission informed the EU member states that the new guidance for action allows opening euro and dollar accounts with Gazprombank.

At the same time, the EC did not specify whether the opening of ruble accounts violates EU sanctions, while this condition is important.

The European Union will also ask importers after paying for gas supplies in euros or dollars to "declare fully fulfilled obligations."

According to the German representative at the meeting, the EU sanctions should not prevent the opening of several accounts at Gazprombank at once.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that 20 European companies have already opened accounts with Gazprombank to buy Russian gas.

It was also reported that the Italian energy company Eni expressed its readiness to open a ruble account.

According to Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, Germany has already started paying for Russian gas in rubles.

In particular, the German VNG intends to transfer euros to Gazprombank for further conversion into rubles.

The Hungarian Foreign Ministry noted that not all European companies advertise their consent to the gas payment scheme from Russia.

At the same time, on April 27, Gazprom announced a complete suspension of gas supplies to the Bulgarian Bulgargaz and the Polish PGNiG due to non-payment in rubles.
