A reporter from the Arabic news channel Al-Jazeera has been killed in clashes between Israeli soldiers and Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Shirin Abu Akleh died on Wednesday and a second reporter, Ali Samodi, was injured, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said on Wednesday.

The reporters reported a raid on the city of Jenin in the Israeli-occupied territory.

Israeli security forces have responded to several attacks in Israel in recent weeks with raids and arrests in Palestinian towns and villages.

Al-Jazeera and a Palestinian official said the reporter was hit by Israeli gunfire.

The Israeli military said the troops fired back after coming under "massive fire" in Jenin.

There is a possibility "that reporters have been hit - possibly by gunfire from Palestinian gunmen".
