A few years ago, the mining community Boliden outside Skellefteå was suddenly shaken by several high-profile crimes in a short time.

These included a shooting at the Marine border and a person who was filmed when he had his finger cut off.

According to the police, the incidents coincided with several people who were largely professional criminals moving to the town.

- They gathered in a small place and it was not good, says area police Magnus Lovelund.

He links the increased crime with a landlord suspected of money laundering.

In the clip, he talks about the connection.

Fewer reported crimes

After the violent crimes, Magnus Lovelund and a police colleague were given a targeted assignment against Boliden.

The mining community is the only place in the municipality where the police have made such an effort.

The number of reported crimes has now also decreased there compared to last year.

- I believe and hope that the people of Boliden feel a greater sense of security now, says Magnus Lovelund.
