  The BA.2.12.1 variant was first discovered in the United States, the report said.

The first confirmed case in South Korea was a woman who entered South Korea from the United States on April 16.

  Yonhap News Agency pointed out that the spread of BA.2 is 30% faster than that of Omicron, while the spread of BA.2.12.1 is more than 20% faster than that of BA.2.
