The chronic shortage of caregivers had already led the management of La Collégiale to close a long-term care unit with 14 beds last year, then another with 40 beds at the end of February.

This partial shutdown will become total: the 80 remaining beds will be transferred the week of May 30 to June 3, most to the neighboring Broca site and a few to that of Vaugirard.

The La Collégiale geriatric hospital, located in the heart of the capital, will be closed from June with no reopening date at this stage, and its patients transferred to other establishments of the Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), a-t -we learned Tuesday from union sources.

No nurses, no hospital.

The chronic shortage of caregivers had already led the management of La Collégiale to close a long-term care unit (USLD) with 14 beds last year, then another with 40 beds at the end of February.

This partial shutdown will become total: the 80 remaining beds will be transferred the week of May 30 to June 3, most to the neighboring Broca site and a few to that of Vaugirard, local officials told AFP. CGT and FO.

The decision must be officially announced on Wednesday during two meetings with the personnel concerned, then with the families of the patients.

Contacted, the AP-HP explains that "a solution must be found quickly" because "the summer period is likely to be particularly critical", with already "half of the vacant nursing positions" during the day and "the absence of prospects sustainable recruitments".

"Everything suggests that the establishment will not reopen"

The "regrouping" envisaged "for the months to come" would ensure "the continuity of care" and "would guarantee a secure operation", adds the institution, which ensures that "work will be carried out by the start of the school year in September " in order to "study the longer-term responses".

But for Olivier Dahuron (CGT), "everything suggests that the establishment will not reopen" after the summer holidays, because "the management has not committed to a reopening".

"We are emptying the hospital, but we do not know if there will be a return", also deplores Sébastien Frisson (FO).
