  The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government launched the 2022 Employment Support Scheme under the "Anti-epidemic Fund" to provide eligible employers with wage subsidies from May to July.

The monthly subsidy for each eligible employee with a monthly salary of $8,000 or above is $8,000; for each employee with a monthly salary of $3,000 or above but less than $8,000, or for each employee aged 65 or above with a monthly salary of less than $3,000, each The monthly subsidy amount is 4,000 yuan.

In addition, eligible self-employed persons can receive a one-off subsidy of $8,000.

  Carrie Lam pointed out that a total of about 140,000 applications from employers were received in May, accounting for 88% of the earlier assessment figures. The total number of employees protected in these applications was about 1.2 million, and about 100,000 applications were from self-employed people.

She said that the first batch of about 45,000 employers will be notified on the 10th that they will receive subsidies for the employment protection plan, involving 2.3 billion yuan.

  Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said that despite the revival of social and economic activities, the SAR government will continue to step up efforts to support enterprises and ensure employment.
