A father and his son appeared this Monday before the court of Compiègne (Oise) for acts of theft by trickery.

On December 28, they pretended to be "water agents" in order to break into the home of a retired couple in Élincourt-Sainte-Marguerite, says

.

“They told me that they were sent by the town hall to check the tap water because there was a problem with a pipe”, explained the wife of the couple, quoted by our colleagues.

One of the fake agents went into the kitchen, the other into the bathroom, before explaining to the pensioners that there was no problem.

Eight-month suspended prison sentence

But the victims noticed that jewelry had disappeared from the bathroom cabinet.

A few days later, they also discovered unexplained banking transactions in their account and money had disappeared from the wallet.

Two complaints were then filed.

The youngest of the thieves was finally identified.

He was given an eight-month suspended prison sentence and will have to pay 2,000 euros for damages.

His father was released.
