For weeks, the hypothesis of an agreement between Nicolas Sarkozy and Emmanuel Macron for the legislative elections has fueled speculation about the number of Les Républicains deputies who could rally the majority to save their skins after the crash of Valérie Pécresse in the presidential election.

The visit of Nicolas Sarkozy to the Élysée after the election of Emmanuel Macron had revived the conjectures.

Did the former and the new president agree to preserve a group of “macron-compatible” LR deputies in the legislative elections?

In the majority, we played the astonishment by affirming that there was “

no agreement

”, but a rule: “

those who did not call to vote Macron, it is no way.

»

In the end, very few nominations were granted to LRs.

A few others will ultimately have no opponents from the majority in front of them.

Damien Abad, the current president of the right-wing group in the Assembly, should notably be spared.

But the opening is very timid.

"Saving what was salvageable"

Nicolas Sarkozy's call for a rally around Emmanuel Macron therefore did not cause the hemorrhage envisaged.

A relative of the former president believes that he tried to “

save what was salvageable

”.

What is Emmanuel Macron looking for?

A socialist rallied to the majority believes that the president "

plays

" with Sarkozy.

A historical macronist notes that these are "

two political animals who get along well

".

Enough to further speed up the recomposition on the right?

The constitution of the new government will be another indicator to watch carefully from this point of view.
