Hear more about how the new rental system works and what the traffic councilor Daniel Helldén (MP) says about his responsibility in the issue in the video above.

The chaos started already five years ago, when no one could believe that it would take such a long time.

September 2017

The City of Stockholm is proud to say that they will replace the then rental bicycles with electric bicycles.

Everything is clapped and ready and you expect 1,200 bicycles the summer after and 5,000 bicycles in the summer of 2019. But that will not be the case.

October 2017

There are already problems.

The rental bicycle company with which the city has signed a contract does not want to build charging stations, but thinks that those who rent should take the batteries home and charge them.

The city of Stockholm is not impressed.

August 2018

No new bicycles are in place, but the procurement that has been appealed was revoked by a court.

This means that suddenly the city of Stockholm no longer has a valid contract for rental bicycles.

At the same time, the old rental bicycles are now being removed from the streets.

Soon there will be no rental bikes under the auspices of the city.

May-October 2019

A very proud traffic city council presents, once again, a new agreement and rides around on the new box bikes.

Voi, those who are known for their electric scooters, won in collaboration with the Norwegian company UIP the new procurement for a loan system for electric bicycles.

At least 8,000 new electric bicycles are promised.

But it was also appealed.

In October of the same year, the administrative court decided to completely disqualify the winning bid from Voi and UIP, as the contract was not entirely in Swedish, but partly in Norwegian and English.

The city must start over.

Again.

August 2021

Once again, the traffic councilor Daniel Helldén rides around the City Hall garden and shows off new bikes and talks about the third agreement.

A total of 5,150 ordinary electric bicycles and 120 box bicycles are planned this time.

The first are promised in the spring of 2022.

May 2022

After a four-year hiatus, it seems that the city's rental bikes can finally start rolling again.

The first bikes can be rented from 10 May.

How long it lasts, we leave unsaid.
