And ten sessions later came the end of the investigation commission of the Madrid City Council on the possible espionage with municipal funds to the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

And it has done so with the appearance of the mayor, José Luis Martínez Almeida, and with three absences that have covered much of his speech: his former press officer Joaquín Vidal, the former EMVS press officer David Fernández and the former director General of the Mayoral Coordination Ángel Carromero.

Because this last name, whose confirmation of absence was made to wait until the last second, has been the protagonist of the mayor's intervention along with the confrontation with the three groups on the left.

"If there had been evidence of his involvement, it would not be a resignation, but a dismissal"

, the mayor concluded on the departure of his former adviser from the Palacio de Cibeles, about whom he had previously stated that this fact had been "due to a series of information" that accused him and because "it was easier for him to defend himself from outside the City Council than from within".

"We agreed that the Madrid City Council could not be in the headlines," Almeida remarked, in an argument that has been repeated since his first public intervention at the press conference on February 17, almost three months ago.

"The resignation is a very personal act and it is up to Mr. Carromero to take it

," he added.

Apart from the figure of the former general coordinator, the names of Joaquín Vidal and David Fernández also came up in the questions of the municipal groups.

Regarding his former press officer, relieved in September 2021,

Almeida has assured that it was a decision of "common agreement because a change was necessary" and has ruled out that it was "due to professional demerit"

.

Although he has also pointed out that his absence at the appearance, since he is still a municipal employee, supposes "a breach of trust without a doubt".

Almeida has also insisted that when he learned of the rumors about espionage, he only passed them on to two "most trusted" people: the Environment and Security delegates, Borja Carabante and Inmaculada Sanz.

Not so to the deputy mayor, Begoña Villacís.

"I did not communicate it to the deputy mayor or to temporary trusted personnel or to my municipal group

. It was not a symptom of mistrust but the way of treating confidential information", she pointed out.

However, when asked by the municipal group of Citizens, he did acknowledge that "nothing would happen if he had done it" and that if it had been at this time he would value this option.

But, above all, Almeida's appearance was a constant clash with the three groups on the left.

First, it was with the councilman of Recupera Madrid, José Manuel Calvo, to whom he indicated that he had run out of "arguments" to justify the thesis of espionage.

"You guys are so desperate not to find anything that you intend to turn this into a rumor room."

In a similar tone was the clash with Mar Espinar, spokesman for the PSOE,

whom he accused of "harassing and pointing fingers at many people whose honorability is beyond any doubt"

.

There the mayor included the rest of the Madrid left, whom he said "is disconnected from the street", as the cause of "many appearing have rejected" for "not submitting to a trial with the opinion already made".

The real confrontation, already with a certain pre-election tone on both sides, came with the spokeswoman for Más Madrid, Rita Maestre.

"I regret that Mrs. Maestre has not been up to the task of this commission and has only come to one of the 10 sessions of this commission

to take a photo and video. I wish the people of Madrid had taken themselves seriously and had been here all the sessions", the mayor started.

After a tug of war between the two, Maestre has made him ugly for having been "a battering ram of the PP against Ayuso" and for carrying "an enormous aura of guilt".

"I know that you, Mr. Almeida, are uncomfortable, but you have to give an account

," he added.

To which Almeida has concluded: "You already have your tweet and your videos, you don't need to come back."
