- In general, Swedish companies would be positively affected if Sweden joins NATO and, above all, the defense companies.

Then you get into the heat a little closer when it comes to the development of certain weapon systems, says Björn Enarson, head of analysis at Danske Bank.

In the defense industry, many hope that a NATO membership can open up more new collaborations and more business.

But other parts of the business community may also benefit if Sweden joins the defense alliance, according to several experts that SVT spoke to.

- Of the listed companies, Saab is the large company that is affected.

But then there are a number of smaller companies, such as tech companies and companies that work with communication solutions, which could be positively affected, says Björn Enarson, head of research at Danske Bank.

Heavy business profiles for NATO

The Confederation of Swedish Enterprise does not take a position for or against NATO, but a survey shows that a majority of their member companies are in favor of NATO membership.

And in recent weeks, several heavy business profiles such as Carl Bennet, Michael Treschow, Carl-Henrik Svanberg and Hans Stråberg have advocated that Sweden join NATO.

- The most important thing is that defense spending increases, and they will do so regardless of whether we agree or not.

It will be a strong market for several years.

But then it can not be ruled out that there is an increased willingness among NATO countries to place an order in another NATO country rather than in a non-NATO country.

NATO competition

The defense company Saab sells a lot to the Swedish defense.

Is there a risk that they will be outcompeted by others if we join NATO?

- I do not think so.

Saab is very dependent on Sweden and Sweden is very dependent on Saab, so it is probably a very good collaboration.

The Armed Forces may be happy that they have a large domestic defense industry, because then they can secure deliveries.

But absolutely, there is competition for the products.

Do you see any disadvantages for the defense industry if Sweden joins NATO?

- Not really.

But on the margins, there may be any customer who buys from a neutral country.

It has been there historically.
