“In the next two months, in May and June, surges in the incidence of COVID-19 are quite possible.

Most likely, the first surge is already happening at this very time in large cities of Russia, ”he said.

At the same time, the expert emphasized that this surge is not comparable to those that were previously with the delta and omicron strains.

“Nevertheless, we see indirect signs of a new wave in the dynamics of mortality and in the shift in terms of the number of hospitalizations,” Kryuchkov said.

He also suggested that a strong and noticeable surge could be recorded in Russia in autumn due to a new wave.

Earlier, the head of the scientific group for the development of new diagnostic methods based on sequencing technologies of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, Kamil Khafizov, said that the stealth omicron variant of the coronavirus does not lead to an increase in the incidence of coronavirus in Russia.
