The 96-year-old monarch has instead decided to limit the number of balcony participants to only working members of the royal family.

"Only the members of the royal family who perform official duties on the Queen's behalf will be with her on June 2," the spokesperson said, adding that "the decision was made after careful consideration", reports the news agency AFP.

Taken to grace?

Recently, there has been speculation in the British media that all three would, after all, appear at the parade - which is the starting shot for four days of festivities when the queen will pay tribute to her 70 years at the throne.

The now 62-year-old Prince Andrew, who is the younger brother of the heir to the throne, Prince Charles, has long been considered the queen's favorite child.

But after being involved in scandals linked to the convicted American sex offender and financier - and now deceased - Jeffrey Epstein, the prince has been stripped of his public duties.

Reached settlement

Earlier this year, however, Andrew reached a settlement with a now adult woman who accused him of forcing sex on her when she was 17 years old.

The woman has also said that she was then a victim of human trafficking arranged by Epstein.

When the prince accompanied his mother to a memorial service for her late husband Prince Philip earlier this year, some British media concluded that Andrew had been taken to mercy again.

But his appearance at the memorial service was controversial and provoked reactions.

Friday's announcement can therefore be perceived as a hint that Buckingham Palace does not want a repeat of critical reactions, writes AFP.

No half measures

The fact that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan - who still hold the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex - are not welcome is interpreted as meaning that the Queen does not accept any half-measures regarding the royal commitments.

Either you are a royal family member with all that entails.

Or you are not.

Harry and Meghan left the royal life in great turmoil in January 2020 and then moved to the United States.
