Macron sworn in as French president for a second term

Emmanuel Macron was sworn in as French President for a second term that officially begins on May 14, in a ceremony held today at the Elysee Palace, attended by about 450 French personalities, including former presidents Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande, as well as Prime Minister Edouard Philippe in his first term.

In a speech delivered during the ceremony, Macron highlighted the magnitude of internal and external challenges, stressing the importance of uniting everyone's efforts to make France a stronger agricultural, industrial, scientific and creative power that works for a full employment society.

Macron won 58.5 percent of the vote in the second round of the presidential election against right-wing candidate Marine Le Pen.
