With the proportion of women in parliament remaining low internationally, the House of Representatives has decided to conduct a questionnaire survey of all members and political parties to check the status of efforts toward women's participation in the political field.

Of the members elected in the lower house election last year, 9.7% are female members of the House of Representatives and the unicameral parliament, which was compiled by the IPU = Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is formed by parliaments around the world, as of April 1. In terms of percentage, Japan ranks 166th out of 188 countries.

Under these circumstances, the House of Representatives has decided to conduct a questionnaire survey of all members and political parties to check the status of efforts toward women's participation in the political field.

According to a survey of parliamentarians, do you think that the number of female parliamentarians is sufficient, do you think that a system to secure a certain number of female parliamentarians is necessary, or do you think that parliamentarians need childcare leave or maternity leave? , I am asking about 58 items.

We are also asking political parties to answer whether they place importance on gender equality in the platform and whether they think that the proportion of women in key positions is sufficient.

All investigations are carried out anonymously, as we want to clarify the actual situation.

The House of Representatives will compile and publish the results during the current Diet session.
