The UN Security Council over the situation in Ukraine has adopted the Chairman's Statement for the first time since Russia's military invasion and has stated that it strongly supports Secretary-General António Guterres' efforts to seek a peaceful solution.

Secretary-General António Guterres is promoting intermediary diplomacy, such as visiting Russia and Ukraine one after another, and the focus is on whether it will lead to concrete results in the future.

The UN Security Council held an urgent meeting on the situation in Ukraine on the 6th, and the chairman's statement was unanimously adopted.

"The Security Council expresses deep concern about maintaining peace and security in Ukraine. We strongly support Secretary-General António Guterres' efforts to find a peaceful solution."

Since Russia began its military invasion of Ukraine in February, the Security Council has held repeated meetings, but this is the first time that members, including Russia, have unanimously issued a statement by the chairman.

However, the chairman's statement is not legally binding, and the content avoids the name of Russia.

Mexico's UN Ambassador to the United Nations, Delafuente, who compiled the statement, asked reporters, "Is Russia really looking for diplomacy?" This is the first step. "

UN Secretary-General António Guterres visited Russia and Ukraine one after another last month and agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the involvement of the United Nations to evacuate citizens from the steel mills in Mariupoli, eastern Ukraine. We have realized the evacuation of citizens from the surrounding area.

In this statement, Russia also supports the Secretary-General's efforts, and the focus is on whether it will lead to results from intermediary diplomacy while the ceasefire negotiations are stagnant.
