The two parents of the newborn baby found dead in the toilets of Bergerac station, in the Dordogne, on Thursday have been remanded in custody, the Périgueux prosecutor's office announced on Friday.

The 19-year-old mother was indicted for "murder of a 15-year-old minor".

Her 40-year-old companion, who accompanied her on the day of the events and presented by the young woman as the father of the child, was indicted for not having prevented the crime and not having provided assistance to the little victim.

He was also remanded in custody, according to a statement.

The lifeless body of the newborn male, born alive according to the autopsy, had been found on April 29 by a maintenance worker in the bowl of the toilets for people with reduced mobility at Bergerac station, where also blood and the placenta.

The young mother, originally from Dordogne, was arrested on Tuesday, admitting to having given birth in these toilets.
