According to figures from the comparator Liligo.com, 17 of the 20 most popular cities departing from France have seen their prices fall between 2010 and 2021. This is the case for plane tickets to London, New York or Montreal.

Good news for travelers who often have the impression of seeing prices go up.

Your summer vacation will certainly be more expensive than last year.

For good reason, the war in Ukraine has led to an increase in the price of plane tickets, a direct consequence of the increase in fuel prices.

But over the long term, over the last ten years, prices have indeed fallen.

For example, plane tickets from Paris to New York are 20% cheaper than before.

A round trip with Air France at a bargain price, smiles Angela, who enters the airport suitcase in hand. 

The price of a ticket to the Canadian city has fallen by 21% since 2010. Grégory works in music, he started going there regularly six years ago.

"It was more expensive than that, it was at least 600 euros minimum. It was time for us to lower the price of the ticket. We are leaving with a very low price because there are a lot of options, that's fun,” he says.

In ten years, the prices of all companies have melted, in particular due to fierce competition from low-cost airlines. 

Companies forced to reinvent themselves

The end of the "all-inclusive" model of traditional companies, forced to reinvent themselves when nearly half of flights departing from France are now operated by low-cost companies, explains Guillaume Rostand, the site's spokesperson reservation Liligo.com.

"In order to be able to offer call prices on the Internet, all the companies have started to charge you, in addition to the plane ticket, the choice of beach, cabin baggage and checked baggage in particular and cut-off tickets. file,” he comments.

"It's really something that didn't exist until recently. It's a market trend."

Lower prices are also made possible by less fuel-consuming devices, the price of which fell between 2010 and 2021.
