Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hagita plans to meet with US Secretary of Commerce Lemond and Secretary of Energy Granholm one after another from late night on the 4th to the 5th of Japan time to compile a joint statement between Japan and the United States.

According to people familiar with the matter, the draft statement states that natural gas is a concern as Russia's military invasion of Ukraine spreads its reliance on Russian natural gas to G7 = seven major countries. We position the role of American LNG = liquefied natural gas as important in alleviating tight supply and demand.

After that, a new conference chaired by high-ranking officials of both the Japanese and US governments will be set up to strengthen energy security, reuse carbon dioxide as fuel, and contain and store carbon dioxide in the ground. We are planning to promote cooperation with carbon technology.

Also, in the semiconductor field, it is expected to compile a joint document and include a policy of establishing a new hotline between Japan and the United States and strengthening cooperation through human resource development.
