The letter to the Ministry of Defense is signed by Ilko Corkovic (S) and Matilda Wärenfalk (S), the chair of the municipal board in Borgholm and Mörbylånga.

There, questions are asked about why there is no military investment in Öland.

"Only have the Home Guard"

Last week, the news came from the government about a new defense billion to Gotland, which will be used to finance barracks buildings, facilities for military vehicles and medical preparedness.

Although Öland is in principle as close to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad as Gotland is, they are still without a military presence.

- We believe that we are exposed as well.

We are extremely vulnerable given the Öland Bridge.

We do not require as much military investment as on Gotland, but we would like answers to the questions about the threat against Öland.

Then a military presence would also be desirable, right now we only have the Home Guard, says Borgholm's municipal board chairman Ilko Corkovic (S).

Worried citizens

According to Borgholm's municipal councilor Ilko Corkovic (S), the municipality receives calls from worried citizens about the deteriorating security situation on a daily basis.

- Among other things, we get questions about what happens if the Öland Bridge is blown up and where there are shelters, says Ilko Corkovic (S).
