Due to the war that is going on in Ukraine, Sorsele municipality has chosen to donate one of the rescue service's older fire engines and rescue vehicles.

- It was obvious that we wanted to contribute with the fire truck, says Mats Engman, municipal manager at Sorsele municipality.

"Opportunity to do good"

It was when the organization "Emergency Aid for Ukraine" contacted the rescue chief Kenneth Paldanius in Sorsele that the work of donating the fire truck to Ukraine took off.

- It felt good when they made contact and an opportunity for us to do some good, says rescue chief Paldanius.

It has taken a few weeks for the rescue service in Sorsele to get a delivery of the fire truck.

- It is clear that we have worked a lot.

Among other things, we have ensured that the organization in Umeå is serious and we have been in contact with the embassy in Stockholm, says Paldanius.

"Hope it does good where it ends up"

On Wednesday, the rescue service will deliver the fire truck to Umeå.

If everything goes according to plan, the fire truck will leave Sweden at the end of the week.

- The final destination is Irpin near Kyiv in Ukraine, says the rescue chief.

What are you hoping for?

- We hope that it will be useful where it ends up, says Kenneth Paldanius, to SVT.
