It is a macabre discovery.

The bodies of three babies were found on Tuesday in the cellar of a house in Ville-d'Avray, in the Hauts-de-Seine department in the Paris suburbs, said the Nanterre prosecutor's office.

An investigation has been opened to find the causes of death, the prosecution said.

The medical examiner will have to determine if they are precisely fetuses or babies, and how long they have been in this cellar.

The bodies discovered by a construction company

According to a source familiar with the matter, it seems that the pavilion is that of a “person who has been deceased for several years”.

The bodies would have been "discovered" Tuesday in the middle of the day by a company which was doing work.

The investigation was entrusted to the Hauts-de-Seine judicial police.
