Six children were killed, on the first day of Eid al-Fitr, after they drowned in the Euphrates River, south of Fallujah district in Anbar (western Iraq), yesterday, Monday, while trying to rescue a girl who had drowned in the river's water.

Iraqi accounts and media outlets broadcasted on social media, severe scenes of the shock of the families in the hospital after the death of their children by drowning.

The video clips show the people's shock and grief over their relatives who drowned in the waters of the Euphrates River, south of Fallujah district.

Residents of the city of Fallujah attended the funeral of the bodies of the six children who drowned in the Euphrates River while trying to rescue a girl who was swept away by the river.

A security source in Anbar province told Iraqi media that a girl from the Nuaimiya area, south of Fallujah district, drowned in the Euphrates River, and some children near her jumped into the river in the hope of saving her, causing the death of a girl, two of her brothers, and 3 other children.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Sheikh Wan Abdullah offered, via Twitter, sincere condolences and sympathy to the family and relatives of the six children who drowned on the banks of the Euphrates River in the city of Fallujah, expressing his sadness and solidarity with the family for this painful tragedy.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives called for intensifying river police patrols, especially in the summer.
