Two people were arrested after the riot that arose after the right-wing extremist politician Rasmus Paludan tried to set fire to a Koran outside the mosque in Uppsala on Sunday evening.

One was arrested for vandalism and violent resistance.

- He was released after questioning, but is still a suspect, says police spokesman Magnus Jansson Klarin.

The other person was arrested by emergency prosecutors later in the evening on suspicion of blue light sabotage.

- He must have gone on a police bus with kicks and blows, says Magnus Jansson Klarin.

The man will be heard on Monday.

A prosecutor from the Public Prosecutor's Office in Uppsala will take over the case during the morning.

Paludan's car was attacked

Rasmus Paludan applied earlier this week to hold an election meeting in Uppsala, but was denied by the police.

He still arrived at the mosque at 5pm on May 1.

When he tried to light a fire on a Koran, several people came running and Paludan left the scene at the same time as his car was attacked.

About 30 people gathered at the scene and the police arrived there with several picket buses.

According to Magnus Jansson Klarin, the police worked with security-creating efforts during the evening.

- Among other things, area police have had a dialogue with different people.
