• An electric shuttle will soon be set up to transport people with reduced mobility in the hypercentre of Rennes.

  • A device that will be offered free of charge to respond to the diversion of many buses that will no longer cross the historic center from north to south.

  • The implementation of the shuttle will take place at the delivery of metro line B, still hoped for the end of May.

The daily traffic figures on this axis are dizzying.

In Rennes, around 800 buses pass through the charming Place du Champ-Jacquet and its famous half-timbered buildings every day.

Not for long.

In reflection for years, the bypass of the historic center of the Breton capital will soon be recorded.

When ?

Impossible to say since it depends on the delivery of the metro line B.

If the date of the end of May is still announced by Siemens, the president of the metropolis Nathalie Appéré admitted to having doubts as to the ability of the German company to keep its commitment.

Let's say it should arrive soon.

Or that the inauguration has never been so close.

While waiting to be able to show off with its new line B, the metropolis has announced the imminent arrival of an electric shuttle which will circulate in its hypercentre soon.

Its mission: to facilitate the movement of people with reduced mobility in the city center once the buses have been diverted.

"Provide a peaceful city center"

“Today, the buses go through rue d'Antrain, Champ-Jacquet and rue d'Horloge.

Tomorrow, they will all be diverted to rue Guillaudot (the one that starts from avenue Janvier to pass in front of the main entrance to Parc du Thabor).

We noticed that we were moving the bus stops away from part of the historic centre.

This question had to be answered,” explains Matthieu Theurier, vice-president of Rennes Métropole in charge of mobility.

The elected environmentalist recalls that the objective of these deviations is "to offer a peaceful city center".

Initially, this electric shuttle will be operated free of charge.

Led by an agent from the Star, it will travel from Place Hoche to République via Sainte-Anne.

It will then go up via Chezy-Dinan to reach rue Guillaudot and return to Hoche.

A fairly short loop which should allow it to offer a departure every fifteen minutes every day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

It will be operational when metro line B opens.
