This is Kyungdong University in Wonju, Gangwon-do.

Candidate Jong-seop Lee for Defense Minister was hired as a fund professor in the Department of Social Welfare at the university in March 2019, after being recruited as a reserve lieutenant general.

Funding Professors are paid a salary from a specific fund supported by the university.

This candidate received a monthly salary of 3 million won from the National Research Foundation of Korea under the Ministry of Science and ICT.

[Kyungdong University official: It is financed by the National Research Foundation of Korea.

(It is usually 3 million won (monthly).) It is paid in that amount.]

But last year, this candidate received 46 million won from Kyungdong University, as well as from the Defense Science Research Institute and KAIST, which are public institutions, 2 to 3 million won per month.

It is a violation of the regulations of the National Research Foundation of Korea, which states, 'If you work for a public institution or receive a remuneration exceeding 36 million won per year, you will suspend the fund support and take measures to recover the remaining balance'.

[Kyungdong University official: We don't know how he does it.

Isn't it something you do personally?]

The National Research Foundation of Korea also said, "If the person does not report voluntarily, it is impossible to know whether the person is doing the wrong thing."

Candidate Lee Jong-seop's side explained, "I did not know the relevant regulations," and "I will follow the redemption decision."
