Statistics Sweden has, on behalf of the government, conducted a study to investigate how much time men and women spend on home and care work.

It is about housework such as cooking, washing dishes, cleaning and washing.

But the study has also examined how much time each gender spends on child care and maintenance of vehicles and housing.

- We spend time on different things.

Women spend more time than men on household activities and men do more of the maintenance work on homes and vehicles, says Marie Hollertz, section manager at Statistics Sweden.

Here it is evenly distributed

For example, women spend an average of one hour and 24 minutes a day cooking and men just over an hour.

Women also spend more of their time caring for children, such as dressing, feeding and grooming.

- But we see that there is an even distribution of homework help and being present at activities and games, says Marie Hollertz.

Same pattern as before

The study does not report how men and women in the same household dispose of their time but refers to the entire population.

In total, Statistics Sweden has asked 18,000 people, the response rate is 31.7 percent.

Previous similar studies have been done three times before, but not with a focus on unpaid homework.

- We see that it is the same pattern in the surveys as in this new one.
