Driving his scooter without insurance, having smoked cannabis, and preparing for his trial in May for drug trafficking, an 18-year-old young man was ready to do anything to escape the police wanting to control him, Tuesday in Marseille.

So much so that he began to drive at full speed on the sidewalk, in the middle of the 3rd arrondissement of the city, going so far as to take a roundabout in the opposite direction.

He then rushed towards a group of children returning from a school outing, all gathered on a sidewalk.

“He could have caused a carnage, slipped during the trial the prosecutor Cécile Guyonvarch, as

La Provence

indicates on Saturday.

He could have killed all those children.

“A case of exceptional seriousness”

The students then threw themselves to the ground in an attempt to protect themselves.

"I slammed on the brakes, but I couldn't avoid the shock," explained the driver during his police custody.

Luckily, he only slightly injured two children.

But the emotional shock is considerable for many others.

"This is a case of exceptional gravity", thus stated the prosecution during the immediate appearance.

The defendant was sentenced to one year in prison to be served at Baumettes, even if his sentence will soon be converted into house arrest, as

La Provence

specifies .
