According to Izvestia, on May 17 the State Duma may adopt a bill "On Amendments to Article 6.33 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation."

The document suggests an amendment, according to which the exception to the fine for importing unregistered drugs is removed if they are recommended by WHO.

“The draft law proposes to clarify the list of grounds according to which the sale or import of unregistered medicines or medical devices does not entail administrative liability,” the document says.

According to Daniil Bessarabov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on State Building and Legislation, a serious system of medicines is already operating in Russia.

He noted that all these fairly strict norms are observed by the controlling structures.

“Therefore, we should not rely on someone else's international experience,” Bessarabov added.

The legal department of the State Duma has already given a positive opinion on the document.

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin earlier asked the head of the Federal Service for Supervision of Healthcare, Alla Samoilova, to take personal control over the provision of medicines to the regions.

He also said that retail prices for essential goods and medicines should be constantly monitored in the Russian regions.
