As of December 1, Spain will ban gender-based advertising aimed at children.

In other words, no more pink for girls or jobs reserved for boys.

According to information from the Spanish daily

ABC

relayed by BFMTV, this decision stems from an agreement comprising 64 measures, signed by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs with the Spanish Association of Toy Manufacturers and the self-regulatory body for advertising .

Among the significant provisions of the agreement is the prohibition to associate a sexual connotation with young girls or to associate them with domestic tasks.

Similarly, it will no longer be possible for toy manufacturers to reserve certain activities, physical, technological or DIY for example, for young boys.

These measures concern minors under the age of 15 with reinforced provisions for children under the age of 7.

Measures taken for the development of children

From now on, no toys or colors will be associated with girls or boys in Spain.

The description of the toys must be understandable by children and each product must promote a responsible and sustainable lifestyle, based in particular on inclusion.

Already in 2021, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs had set up a “toy strike” campaign to raise awareness on these issues.

He now believes that these new measures will make it possible to have “more egalitarian, true and constructive representations, of the fundamental aspects for the development of children”.

In France, a charter was signed in 2019 by the federation of toy manufacturers to go in this direction, without pushing the cursor as far as Spain.
