The tragedy of the suicide of Egyptian journalist Emad El-Feki, who committed suicide on the fourth floor of Al-Ahram building, according to initial accounts, sparked a battle between the Council of the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate, whose council member accused Al-Ahram of being implicitly responsible for the tragedy, and the editor-in-chief of the Egyptian Press Foundation, who denied the accusation and accused the council member of: Trading".

The battle began with a comment by a member of the Journalists Syndicate Council on the suicide of journalist Imad El-Feki, whose lines said, “All the colleagues in Al-Ahram who slept with the late colleague Imad El-Feki know very well that in the last 4 years he was subjected to clear, frank and systematic persecution from Alaa Thabet, editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram. Incentives and profits During these years, persecution reached to prevent him from practicing his journalistic work unofficially and without reason, and also without instructions because no one says instructions, in addition to overstepping him several times in his promotion to the head of his department.

The late Al-Fiqi chose to send a message from the place of his departure to every unjust editor-in-chief, to the head of the National Press Authority and its members, to the Syndicate of Journalists and members of its council, and to every press leadership that practices oppression and subjugation of men.

The message arrived, uncle Imad, at least to your colleague, and may God have mercy on you and forgive you and dwell in your vast gardens.

Mahmoud Kamel’s comment, as it was issued by a union leader, provoked wide repercussions, as calls on Facebook from journalists from various institutions called for an immediate investigation into what Kamel attributed to Al-Ahram. The journalist writer and former editor-in-chief of Al-Shorouk newspaper, Abdel-Azim Hammad commented, "The truth is, Mahmoud, my friend. Despite the cruelty of the news and the tragic end of this generous colleague of character and soul, nothing in our press is currently worth crying over. No promotion, no publication, no position, but the taste of injustice The pain and the feeling of inability to take the truth is painful. Oh God, we delegate the matter to you in the right of Imad and we ask you for mercy, satisfaction and forgiveness.”

Al-Ahram journalist and director of Al-Zaytina Center for Heritage, Abu Al-Abbas Muhammad, commented, "Important words that require investigation... All colleagues must know the truth and advocate for the right and reputation of the colleague in his death after they failed to do so during his life."

For his part, the editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram newspaper, Alaa Thabet, issued a statement, responding to Mahmoud Kamel's accusations, in which he said, "I firmly affirm that everything published by my colleague Mahmoud Kamel, a member of the Journalists' Syndicate Council, is a sheer lie and a slander inspired by a sick imagination that seeks to achieve ambiguous goals that are not It is understandable through trafficking in the tragedy of the late colleague. It has never happened - and between us the records of the Al-Ahram Foundation and the National Press Authority - that any of the incentives or profits were deducted for the deceased colleague since 2017 until now. The colleague does not have any complaints in the records of Al-Ahram, the Syndicate, or the media councils, and I announce that I will file an official complaint against the lying colleague who deals in the pain of colleagues to both the Public Prosecution and a documented formal complaint to the National Press Authority, as well as a union complaint to the Journalists Syndicate.

I appeal to colleagues to judge for themselves what the colleague has committed against the profession, the union, and even all members of the General Assembly of the Journalists Syndicate.

It is worth noting that the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate issued a statement calling for stopping the mutual exchange and not pre-empting the results of the investigation.
