A bill to phase out the prosecution's investigation authority was presented to the National Assembly plenary session yesterday (27th) and the power of the people blocked it with unlimited debate, but as the Democrats shortened the session, the discussion ended at midnight.

The legislation seems to proceed according to the Democratic Party's plan, and the People's Power side continues to mention the idea of putting it to a referendum.

Unlimited discussion on the Prosecutor's Office Act amendment bill, the filibuster ended in 6 hours and 49 minutes due to the split of the Democratic Party's session.

[Park Byeong-seok / Speaker of the National Assembly: It is midnight.

According to the National Assembly Act, the extraordinary meeting has ended and the meeting can no longer be held (I tell you.)]

As a countermeasure, the People's Power continued the idea of a referendum by Yoon Seok-yeol, who was elected yesterday.

[Lee Jun-seok / Representative of the People's Power: It has become a situation where we have no choice but to mention various alternatives such as the method of asking the will of the people through a referendum.]

President-elect Yoon talked about the spirit of the Chungmugong.

[Yoon Seok-yeol/President-elect: Chungmugong’s precious words that if one person keeps the road well, a thousand people are not afraid…

.]

Jang Je-won, chief of staff, also pressured the revision of the referendum law to heal the unconstitutional decision, which was a stumbling block.

[Jang Je-won / Chief of Staff of the President-elect: If the Democratic Party does not pass it (revision of the referendum law), it can only be seen as a fear of the referendum, right?]

The Democratic Party immediately protested.

He insisted that the separation of prosecutorial investigation and prosecution rights do not fall under the 'important policy on national security' subject to the referendum, and insisted that he study the constitution again.

[Park Hong-geun / Democratic Party Floor Leader: Yoon Seok-yeol and the transition committee suddenly decided to hold a referendum that does not meet the constitutional requirements.]

Despite the battle over the referendum, the legislative process in the National Assembly is flowing according to the Democratic Party's timetable.

The amendment bill to the Prosecutor's Office Act will be voted on at the plenary session the day after tomorrow, and another 'complete inspection' bill, the amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act, is also scheduled to be presented on the same day.

If this law is also dealt with as a split of the session, the legislative process of the oversight bill is expected to be finalized on the 3rd of the next month.
