Trump appeals ruling requiring him to pay $10,000 a day

Former US President Donald Trump has appealed a New York judge's contempt of court ruling and a daily $10,000 fine for failing to comply with a subpoena in a civil fraud investigation, Bloomberg News reports.

The appeal, filed in Manhattan today, aims to overturn an April 25 ruling that Trump violated a court order to turn over records to New York Attorney General Letita James, who is investigating potentially misleading asset estimates at the former president's real estate company.

The request, filed by Trump's lawyer, Alina Happa, did not specify what defenses she would make in the appeal.

She previously said she was willing to swear that Trump had no records to hand over.

Letita James, a Democrat, said in a statement that the appeal is another attempt to delay her investigation.
