According to Dan Nilsson (S), chairman of the municipal board, Destination Gotland pays around SEK 2,000 per day for the wharf at Skeppsbrokajen in central Västervik.

SVT Nyheter Småland has asked Västervik municipality to release public documents concerning the location of the ferry and requested the lease for the quay, the minutes of the negotiations between Västervik municipality and Destination Gotland and minutes of the municipal board's decision that the ferry may be moored at the current location.

Criticism from the opposition

On April 21, the municipality wrote in a reply email to SVT:

“It is an oral assignment and thus there is currently no document to disclose.

There are no minutes from meetings between the municipality and Destination Gotland.

An agreement on the lease will be written and signed, but this agreement has not yet been drawn up. "

When SVT makes a new attempt on April 26, the answer will be the same;

The management office at the municipal board's administration replies that no agreements have yet been written.

The opposition in Västervik is now criticizing how the municipality handled the matter.

In the clip above, municipal councilor Dan Nilsson (S) responds to the criticism.

Verbal agreement that the ferry will be allowed to be in the port

It is clear, however, that there is an oral agreement between Västervik Municipality and Destination Gotland.

Destination Gotland does not want to communicate what the oral agreement is specifically about.

The shipping company writes in an email to SVT:

“We have an agreement with Västervik municipality.

For more information about this, we refer to Västervik municipality. ”

Dan Nilsson (S) says on Wednesday to SVT that the verbal agreement means, among other things, that Destination Gotland will pay approximately SEK 2,000 per day, plus extra costs, and that the boat will be in Västervik until one week after the seasonal traffic with Visby has run out.
